Mesothelioma is an aggressive form of cancer that can be generally broken down into three main types, with each affecting a different area of the body. The mesothelium is the protective layer of tissue that surrounds most of the body’s internal organs. Mesothelioma most commonly is diagnosed in the areas surrounding the lungs, heart, and abdomen.
If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with any form of mesothelioma, you may have important legal rights. If your cancer was caused by exposure to asbestos either at work or at another location, you may be entitled to financial compensation from your employer or another responsible party. Symptoms of pleural mesothelioma include:

This form of mesothelioma is very rare, comprising less than 30% of all mesothelioma cases. It may be caused by either inhaling or ingesting (swallowing) toxic asbestos fibers.
The symptoms commonly associated with peritoneal mesothelioma include:
Pericardial mesothelioma is cancer of the pericardium, the protective mesothelium surrounding the heart. It is the least common of all forms of mesothelioma and can result in life-threatening tumors and accumulation of fluid around the heart.
